Distance from Texas

  1. Open your PP and make a new slide (Ctrl + M).
  2. Give the sldie a title, Maybe "How from from Dallas, Texas" or something like that.
  3. Grades K-3 and 5 will use this website by clicking on "U.S.A. - Texas - Dallas" for their location and then by clicking on your country or state for the other location.
  4. Click on "Calculate Distance" and you will now see a screen with the distance in air miles and nautical/land miles. Air miles are greater because the arch is longer the farther you are form the surface of the earth. You can demonstrate this with a globe and some yarn.
  5. Right click on the cool map that you now have and select copy.
  6. Paste the image on your slide in your PP.
  7. Resize it to fit the way you want it to.
  8. Type the distance from Dallas somewhere on the slide.
  9. Copy the address of the website and add it your bibliography.
  10. To caluclate how fast you can fly to your location, click here to figure out how fast a normal airplane flies. Ask students how far a normal plane travel in an hour. Have them predict how long the total trip would be.
  11. Calculate how long it would be on an airplane by dividing the distance by the miles per hour. Try this on paper for 5th or use the calculator on the computer by going to the Start menu>All Progams>Accessories>Calculator.
  12. Copy the address of the website and add it to your bibliography.
  13. Type the time it would take to travel to your country on the slide. That is all for today.
